The Geographic and Land Information Society has made progress on many of its goals, particularly in the areas of education and cooperation with other organizations in the GIS and LIS communities. The society has developed several workshops offered at the ACSM annual conference, as well as at state surveyors’ meetings and other events. These workshops address the common ground between GIS and surveying.
GLIS is working on summarizing GIS activities in the states’ surveying societies, discussing GIS tools for parcel mapping, and examining the impacts and opportunities in GIS certification and professional education.
The Geographic and Land Information Society also provides a delegate to the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS).
The society is extending its educational and coordination activities into print with articles in the GLIS Newsletter and the ACSM Bulletin. GLIS has established an alliance with the Surveying and Land Information Systems (SaLIS) Journal and will be supplying content, as well as provide SaLIS as a member benefit to GLIS members.
